If you're getting married in sunny climes you'll need to think carefully about the type of dress you want to wear, check out how warm it will be and choose your outfit accordingly. For hot weather a short sleeved or sleeveless dress is essential. Strapless dresses are very popular at the moment and an ideal choice in the heat. Look for light, cool fabrics such as chiffon or georgette and check for crease resistance, often mixed fabrics crease less than the more expensive pure silks. If you've got your heart set on a full skirt think about having a detachable train which can be removed after the ceremony for a cooler option.

Many airlines will not guarantee that you can take your dress on board the plane as hand luggage but be sure to ask and get something in writing if necessary. Keep your dress in a separate garment carrier so it can be boxed to go into the hold if necessary.

When you arrive at your hotel hang your dress up straight away. A warm and humid climate will help any creases full out naturally. Alternatively you can hang your dress up in the bathroom where the steam from the shower will work wonders on creases. If you want to iron your dress use a low setting and don't iron directly onto the fabric, place a clean cloth between the iron and your dress to prevent any damage.

Lightweight linen suits are the most popular choice for grooms getting married abroad, as they are much cooler than a traditional suit and look great worn with or without a tie. A short sleeved linen shirt is also a good idea. Alternatively you could forget the jacket and to wear a waistcoat instead.
