History

First, a brief history from the school of wedding traditions. No one is actually certain how and when the use of wedding rings begun. Historians believe that the act traces its source way back to primitive times when ancient men exchanged gifts to symbolize good relationships. Others argue that the Egyptians were the first people to use wedding rings. The Egyptians are also credited for the conventional placement of the ring on the left hand's fourth finger, believing that such finger is directly connected to the heart. In any case, the wedding ring holds the most ancient history among traditional wedding elements.
The first wedding rings were said to be made of grass, hay, leather and even braided hair. The discovery of metals consequently led to the creation of metal rings. Flash forward to Elizabethan times, wealthy European women wore lavishly-designed wedding rings.
But perhaps the most interesting account about wedding rings is that traditionally, men do not wear them. It is said that it was only during World War II when men, parted from their wives, felt the need of wearing wedding rings and bands. This act, consistent to what a wedding ring stands for, was absolutely a gesture of love.
Today, designs of wedding rings vary as much as the number of couples in the world. Some couples want their ring plain, others exquisite and classic. And the good news is, it is always possible to acquire the ring of your choice.
