Traditions tend to evolve over time and get reinvented by people who use them. The Western wedding customs include the freedom and independence to celebrate in whatever manner is desired by the bride and the groom. However, some standard customs remain and are acknowledged as being traditional.

Weddings, regardless of culture, are a universal rite of passage that allows a couple to separate from the old and undergo a process towards the new to become part of it. The old pertains to the couple’s respective families while the new is the family that the married couple will have. A cultural tradition is said to be a practice inherited from the past that remains relatively unchanged from generation to generation. Wedding traditions are very much influenced and characterized by culture.
