The Western Influence
There is no greater evidence of the influence of Western traditions in weddings than in fashion. It has influenced the style of dress of many Non-Western cultures to the extent of replacing the traditional dress entirely in some areas. The incorporation of the white wedding gown into some countries’ wedding traditions happened during the early and mid-twentieth century. The Western custom of the bride wearing a white wedding dress came to symbolize purity during the Victorian era. This custom is widely seen not only in Europe and America but also in places where they have considerable influence. The traditional clothing worn by the bride is usually floor length but can also come on other variations such as short dresses or an off-white version. The groom and his party usually wear black tuxedos that are traditionally worn with ties. It may also come in its own variation such as those with no collar with a button clasp at the neck.
